Transport of tomatoes in Ukraine and Europe

When transporting tomatoes, it is essential to ensure that the temperature regime is maintained continuously and consistently. Inconsistent temperature conditions from the moment the products are removed from the warehouse until they are loaded onto refrigerated lorries can cause condensation on the surface of the tomatoes, reducing their hardness and accelerating the spoilage process. For this reason, JIT Trans controls the period during which tomatoes are exposed to atmospheric conditions to be as short as possible.

To transport the tomatoes, we use refrigerated lorries, which ensure that the temperature is maintained between 0 and +12°C. The vehicles must be pre-cooled before loading. If the tomatoes have been graded and calibrated outside the refrigerator before shipment, the temperature in the refrigerator is initially set 2-3 degrees higher than during storage and gradually reduced to the standard to avoid thermal shock and reduce spoilage. Deviations in temperature conditions may cause loss of moisture in the tomatoes, reducing their commercial appeal.

The transport of tomatoes is a key factor in ensuring their quality from harvest to delivery to the end consumer. The use of appropriate packaging and cooling methods, as well as close monitoring of transport conditions, are essential due to the short shelf life and high vulnerability of this product. Properly executed logistics processes increase the overall efficiency of tomato transport, minimise losses and contribute to the stable operation of the food industry.
